The activities of the Children's and Youth Handicraft School are aimed at all children and youth of the Imatra region who are interested in crafts and design.
In the craft school, basic teaching in the art of handicraft is given in accordance with the basics of the visual arts curriculum.
Basic art education refers to regular and goal-oriented education in different art fields based on legislation. The purpose of the teaching is to increase the student's opportunities to practice handicrafts and to give the student the skills to apply for further studies in the field if they wish.
Studying at Handicraft School The craft school has teaching groups for children and young people aged 7 to 16. The teaching explores and tries out the possibilities of design, construction and textile techniques in one's own expression. The studies introduce different craft techniques and materials as well as pictorial and plastic presentation techniques according to the age of the child and young person.
In teaching, the main focus is on the handicraft process and the student's own expression. Different themes, craft techniques and materials act as a means of expression, stimulate the student's imagination, provide visual capabilities, develop craft skills and knowledge while introducing the student to the craft, object, and environmental culture that surrounds the student.
In working, the key is to give the student experiences of success and help them find joy in their own learning.
In the studies, e.g. clay, wood and plastic masses, make mosaic work, felt, print fabric, sew and braid, make jewelry, build with different materials and get to know the environment.
