On that day, you can follow playing lessons and collective playing groups in different classes from 13:18 to XNUMX:XNUMX, when you can freely enter the classes or wait a while according to the instructions on the sign on the door.
Around Kulttuuritalo Virtaa, you may hear the ringing throughout the day. The day is crowned by a café concert at Kahvila Virra at 17 p.m.
This is a great opportunity to get to know the diverse activities of the music college. A warm welcome!
Note! There is a novelty group for 6-8 year olds: Music carousel.
The musical instrument carousel is best suited for children aged around 6-8 who are interested in getting to know different instruments.
In the carousel, you can get to know the following instruments: ukulele, kantele, piano, violin and sheet music.
The studies are part of early childhood music education and they function as a bridge between early childhood music education and basic music studies.
In the instrument carousel, you get to know a specific instrument for four weeks, after which the instrument changes.
The instrument carousel is a great way to try playing as a hobby before starting basic music studies.
The child learns the basics of playing different instruments and gets confirmation of his own preferences regarding different instruments.
Register for the group at Eepos!
The college's extension announcements for the next school year are made in Eepos during April. If the studies have been set to continue, but the student does not continue them, it is important to submit the termination notice in writing by the deadline (e.g. by email to our office or to the assistant principal): in the fall, 13.8. and in spring 6.1. by. If the notice of termination is not submitted by the due date, the entire tuition fee will be charged.
The students were selected according to our resources in order of enrollment. For music students, we guarantee a place to study at our college every academic year (instrument-specific, depending on resources). All applicants have received information about the student place by the end of June, and those who are in the queue will be taken for vacant places. However, you can ask the assistant principal about free student places throughout the year.

STUDENT US?
Read more about hobby opportunities from the links on the left side of the page. You can inquire directly from the assistant principal Anna-Mari Sopase about free student places for basic studies.
You don't need any prior skills! Our teaching starts from what the student knows when he starts.
Virta-opisto music school (formerly Imatra music school) is the fifth oldest music school in Finland.
At the music academy, music is studied in accordance with the broad curriculum of basic art education. Playing music is therefore goal-oriented and progresses from one level to another, but the starting point of the activity is the student and his goals and wishes. A personal curriculum is planned for each student at the beginning of the academic year, in which the goals are recorded according to the starting points of each student. Students and household members can therefore really influence the course of their own studies!
You can start studying at the music academy as a baby with a parent in a music group, and you can continue your music career at the academy until you are an adult. The earliest music education as a rule, children between the ages of 0 and 6 are covered, but also for basic music studies can be applied as soon as the child's physical characteristics allow the handling of musical instruments. Below is a link to the early childhood music education's own pages, where you can find more information about the groups we offer. In the basic music studies, the student attends private playing lessons every week, and his own playing teacher is the most important study guide throughout the entire music school path. In addition to playing lessons, the student participates in teaching the basics of music, making music together, receives performance training and gets to enjoy many concert opportunities while listening. The joint Christmas and spring concerts of the School of Music are the highlights of the academic year, to which everyone has free access.
After the basic studies, the student can continue if he wishes for advanced music studies, where the student can specifically deepen his own knowledge and even better orient himself in the direction he wishes in the wide field of music. The curriculum reform of 2017 has brought additional freedom to the basic teaching of the art of music, so that it would be easier to increase student orientation in educational institutions, and Imatra also takes this into account in our operating culture. Our operating area includes the city of Imatra and the municipalities of Ruokolahti, Rautjärvi and Parikkala. In Imatra, our office is Kulttuuritalo Virta, Virastokatu 1. The school's offices are located in the administration corridor of the main library and classrooms are in Kulttuuritalo Virta.
