The city's gyms are still closed.

The city of Imatra will open its sports facilities, i.e. the swimming hall, the sports hall and the ice rink, on Thursday 7.1 January. These facilities were closed when the corona situation worsened in Imatra before Christmas. Likewise, the Ukonniemi arena opens on January 7.1.

Thanks to all users for understanding the situation and taking it seriously. According to current information, the premises can be opened again, In accordance with the national recommendations, hobby opportunities for children and young people in particular are aimed at being started and maintained in a controlled manner, even during the acceleration phase of the corona virus, head of welfare services Arja Kujala says.

City-run gyms will still be closed throughout January.

Recommendation for people over 20 still valid

Regarding group hobby activities for over 20-year-olds, the recommendation is still valid that this activity should not be carried out. Thus, for example, the city does not start guided exercise groups for adults. Guided exercise will be organized as a remote service for the members of the exercise groups. Group members will be informed about this in more detail during the next week.

The evening use of school gymnasiums has also not been started yet. This is to ensure that schools can be started safely. If the infection situation remains calm, the introduction of these facilities will be considered from the third week of January. Before this, the introduction of the facilities is planned together with the clubs.

We live one day and one week at a time. If the infection situation or the number of exposed people in the province or Imatra changes for the worse, we will reassess the situation, says Kujala.

According to AVI's guidelines, the maximum number of people at public events is 20 people. In private events, the maximum number of people is 10 people. This also applies to all hobby activities. The city of Imatra reminds clubs and enthusiasts about safety intervals and hygiene instructions.
