The felling of wood will take place next or the following weekend.

The work on the new building of Vuoksenniska's future school center will begin at the beginning of February. The felling of trees from the road to the construction site will take place either next weekend or the following weekend.

The new building will be located on the western border of the plot. The place is behind the current school, opposite the new kindergarten.

The school and its courtyard will be completed by the fall of 2019.

- The new facilities are sized for 350 students, Builder of Imatra YH-Rakennuttaja Oy Ari Lattu states.

All in all, nearly 580 school children will study on Vuoksenniska hill in the future, when the activities of Virasoja and Kaukopää schools will also be combined there. The old Niska school properties will also remain in educational use.

The main building of the new school property will have two floors. Three single-layer wing parts separate from the main mass.

The school was designed by an architect Kimmo Hartikainen K design from Imatra. The guidelines for the design have been framed by the city's educational side, and especially the school staff.

- In the spring, the planning started from the perspective of pedagogy. Now we have even been able to influence furniture design, acting principal Janne Rautiainen thanks

The drawings have been presented, for example, at parents' evenings.

The basic idea of the school is an open learning environment.

- There will be a lot of spaces of different sizes in the property, which can be converted with transfer walls, Lattu states.

In addition to teaching facilities, the property will also have a sports hall, as the new school center will need another sports hall in addition to the old hall as the number of students increases.

The exterior of the school property will be light gray, but the wings will have accent colors.

Different functional places are planned for the yard area. There will be, among other things, a forest area, an outdoor classroom, a swing area, a play arena and free space, as well as a fitness area and sand artificial grass near the fitness track.

There is also art coming to the yard, which will be realized with percentage art. The artist has been selected Jarkko Liutu.

The construction of the new school property will cost a good 10,8 million euros in total. This amount does not include the furnishing of the property, which will be assessed in more detail in the 2019 budget.

The main contractor of the school is Rakennusliike Evälahti Oy from Imatra.

The construction of the school has already been prepared by making a new driveway for the school. The continuation of Havurinne is ready without coating.

- This road will be used by site traffic. There will also be a storage area. The new extension of Havrinne will therefore be closed to all other traffic, and people outside the construction site will not be allowed to go to school or to the fitness track. Lattu warns that traffic on Havurinne will increase during the construction period.
