South Karelia's regional COVID-19 situational group stated at its meeting on August 24.8.2021, XNUMX that the coronavirus epidemic is in the spreading phase in South Karelia.

The remote work recommendation, face mask recommendation and recommendations to protect risk groups are valid. The remote work and remote meeting recommendation will be extended until 31.10.2021 October XNUMX.

The recommendation becomes a decision on August 25.8.

Wednesday 25.8. enters into force in South Karelia on August 17.8 of the Regional Administrative Agency of Southern Finland. made a decision in accordance with section 58 of the Infectious Diseases Act.

The recommendation corresponding to the decision has already been in effect for two weeks. According to the decision, close contact must be avoided in general meetings and public events of 10 people indoors, and in general meetings and public events of more than 50 people outdoors. On such occasions, customers and those participating in the activity, as well as groups, must actually be able to avoid close contact with each other. If avoidance is not possible, the activity cannot be organized while the decision is in force.

Avoid close contact if contact with another person does not occur indoors or outdoors and there are no indoor situations where you are less than two meters away from others for more than 15 minutes.

At private events, the same self-imposed restrictions as at public events and general meetings are observed. At private events, good hand hygiene must be taken care of and, if possible, the use of face masks and safety distances of 1–2 meters.

All gatherings and close contacts outside the home should be avoided whenever possible. Discretion should be used when organizing and participating in parties.

- It is important that we still have the courage to follow the recommendations, even if we all wished that the corona situation had already eased, says the chairman of the situation picture group Tuula Karhula.

- The infections are now concentrated in the young and middle-aged, who do not yet have the protection provided by the two vaccines. At the same time, the average age of patients who need hospital treatment is getting lower all the time, Eksoten's chief physician of the social and health district of South Karelia Sami Raasakka.

It is important for pregnant women to take the vaccine

With the spread of the delta variant of the corona virus, the risk of a pregnant woman getting a corona infection has increased in Finland since the spring of this year.

According to a study conducted in Britain, the delta variant can also cause a more severe disease in a pregnant woman than previous variants of the coronavirus. The Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare (THL) recommends the corona vaccine for all pregnant women.

- Even a completely healthy pregnant person can get really sick from corona. A corona vaccination taken during pregnancy also protects the newborn, Eksote's chief infectious disease doctor Pekka Suomalainen.

Vaccinations for young people move to schools in week 35

Eksote organizes walk-in vaccinations at IsoKristiina in Lappeenranta. Anyone 12 years of age or older can come to IsoKristiina for their first corona vaccination without an appointment on weekdays from 9.30:14.30 a.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.

You can come to the place without an appointment. The vaccination time has been extended until 12:20 on Wednesday so that as many people as possible could get vaccinated then. Eksote hopes that as many young people as possible will come and take it. It is easy to get vaccinated at joint vaccination points. Vaccinations for 12–15-year-olds are taking place in Lappeenranta's IsoKristiina and Imatra's ToriGalleria, as well as in the northern municipalities within the framework of free vaccination times.

The city of Imatra reminds that even those who have been vaccinated have a strong mask recommendation.
