In February, high school students alternated between distance and face-to-face education.

Mansikkala middle school will study at home until Christmas

Release
17.12.2020 14:05
From elementary school to quarantine, 31 students and 3-4 staff members.

The middle school students of Mansikkala School Center will be transferred from tomorrow Friday (18.12.) to study at home with special teaching arrangements. It is a precautionary measure to limit the risk of corona infection that occurred at the Mansikkala school center. According to the information at the moment, there are no sick people in the middle school.

Older students are able to study more independently a few days before the Christmas holidays, states the head principal of the Mansikkala school center Lasse Tiilikka.

Studying at home will continue until Christmas vacation, i.e. three days. The school instructs the students today how to act when studying at home.

It is not officially distance learning, as it would require official decisions. The city now operates more flexibly and transfers the entire middle school to study at home with special arrangements.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to organize meals for middle school students with such quick notice for the duration of the three exceptional days.

Those with symptoms are tested

Younger students, i.e. elementary school, will remain in close-to-home education, but Eksote will quarantine students and staff members who were in close contact with the infected person today. Eksote is reaching out to everyone who will be quarantined today, Thursday, by phone. In total, about 31 students and 3-4 teachers will be quarantined. The city has already contacted by phone last night all the families affected by the upcoming quarantine.

Mass testing will not be done, but if necessary, Eksote will test all students and staff members of the Mansikkala School Center who have symptoms typical of the corona virus and have been in contact with an infected person.

According to preliminary information, there are some people with symptoms, but it is worth remembering that there is also a common cold, the head of welfare services Arja Kujala says.

The city actively informs about the matter whenever new information about the Mansikkala case is received. School arrangements at the beginning of the next semester will be announced after the turn of the year, before school work begins, both on the city's website and in Wilma.

The recommendation was followed well

Already today, Thursday, based on the recommendation published by the city on Wednesday, about half of the elementary school students left school.

The classes that were encouraged to remain in self-imposed quarantine have followed the call, Tiilikka praises.
