Attached are general instructions in accordance with THL and Eksote guidelines.

General instructions for early childhood education and schools for people with flu symptoms

If it's just a runny nose, we recommend monitoring for 1-2 days at home (allergy medicine can also be tried if you suspect an allergic runny nose).

If the symptoms do not improve, a corona test will be performed and the child will be absent from daycare/school until a negative answer has been received or the child has been symptom-free for two days.

If there is also a cough or fever or symptoms of diarrhea, the test is performed 1 day after becoming ill and the child waits at home for a negative result or two symptom-free days. In the case of a prolonged disease, of course, return only according to the symptoms, as usual.

In unclear situations, you can contact emergency help or health and welfare stations, where you can get instructions. Retesting should be considered on a case-by-case basis if the child's symptoms continue for a long time.

If the family does not want/agree to take the child for a corona test, the child can go to daycare/school after being symptom-free for two days.

Serious underlying illness in a child or in the family

If the child has a serious underlying disease or medication that significantly affects their immunity, distance learning is recommended.

In this case, the patient or his guardian can directly contact the EKKS pediatric outpatient clinic, from where the certificate can be written based on the treatment information there.

It is good to note that long-term illnesses with a good treatment balance are usually not a risk for a serious disease caused by the coronavirus - see link

If a relative living in the same household as the child has a severe and/or poorly balanced basic illness, it is possible for a person in a risk group to request a certificate from the treating unit that the person belongs to a risk group. The person belonging to the risk group can then use the certificate as they wish. The school has the decision-making power, the doctor cannot decide on the distance school.

Travel and quarantine instructions

The quarantine instructions in the travel instructions apply to everyone. When arriving from a high-risk country, a negative corona test result does not allow an earlier return to school/workplace. During the journey, you must follow the country-specific instructions of THL and STM.

Counseling activities and student care

You can come to counseling and student care services without symptoms of flu or stomach flu. If the child or chaperone has symptoms of illness, the appointment will be postponed or some matters will be reviewed with a remote connection suitable for the purpose. Contact your counseling center or the school's student care services if your matter is urgent.
