The repaired wave absorbers will be moved back to the lake after the ice has left.

Two broken breakwaters in Lammassaari harbor have been repaired during last fall and this winter. Sthe condition of the concrete breakwaters in the harbor area was checked in 2022. The condition assessment study was done by diving and observing the dampers, mooring chains and anchor weights from the ground.

- Based on the condition assessment and previous findings, maintenance repairs were undertaken. In this case, repair is more economically profitable than buying new ones, says the facility management manager Petri Nuutinen from the city of Imatra.

Rusted reinforcements and water-logged insulation boards renewed

Repairs have been made to a total of three shock absorbers: one shock absorber was repaired a year ago, two shock absorbers were raised from the lake for repair in November 2023. The shock absorbers were repaired and maintained at the workshop of Imatra's Property and Area Service.

- Corroded concrete has been removed from the worn shock absorbers, and the rusted reinforcing steels of the shock absorbers have been replaced. New grip reinforcements have also been installed in the areas to be repaired, says the responsible foreman Mika Vartiainen From Imatra's Real Estate and Area Service.

- At the same time, the water-soaked insulation boards of the shock absorbers were replaced with new extruded insulation. The mass of the shock absorbers was reduced by several tons, as the water that got into the structure and insulation has now been removed. Finally, the parts to be repaired were molded and cast with fiber concrete mass resistant to water and frost stress.

Back to the lake during the spring

The repaired wave absorbers will be moved to the lake after the ice has left.

- The shock absorbers have been taken to Lammassaari to wait for the ice to leave. When the lakes are freed from ice, the tug fleet can move the wave absorbers into place, says Vartiainen.

In the investment program, money has been set aside for the repairs of the shock absorbers for the year 2025 as well.
