Vuoksi Raitti – Environmentally friendly lighting journey project

The city of Imatra has built lighting for the track along the Vuoksi River using environmentally friendly lighting technology. The lighting creates safety and improves accessibility in the area. 

The lighting was implemented as part of the Vuoksi raitti - an environmentally friendly lighting tour project, which has received funding from the European Rural Development Fund for 2023–2027.

The area is a significant part of Imatra's cityscape and offers stunning scenery and outdoor activities.

The lighting is implemented using environmentally friendly and energy-efficient technology.

The lighting is implemented with environmentally friendly Amber lens technology, which allows the selection of a light color that takes environmental aspects into account. Energy-saving lighting technology reduces energy consumption and thus reduces carbon dioxide emissions from lighting construction.  

Project goals

• Improves the safety and aesthetics of the Vuoksi track with environmentally friendly lighting.
• Reduces energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in the area by using energy-efficient and environmentally friendly lighting.
• Promote the attractiveness of the area and attract more visitors.

Resident survey

We asked residents for their opinions on the new lighting. The survey was open from November 5 to December 7, 2025, and received a total of 71 responses.

We received a lot of positive feedback: the lights are considered atmospheric and suitable for the environment. According to the survey results, use of the route has increased, and many people now choose this route instead of another.

We also received a development suggestion, which we immediately took into account. The lighting on the trail has now been adjusted so that it is on all the time and the lighting on the trail brightens more smoothly as the user progresses.
