The basics of music, conceptualizing music, music theory, known as mupe studies, belong to the extensive curriculum studied at music colleges. At the same time, Mupe is an important supporting material for instrument studies, through which the student learns music reading and writing skills, understanding music and knowledge of styles in the history of music.

Mupe studies are part of both basic and advanced studies. The basic studies include mupe skill levels 1–3 and skill level 4, i.e. general music knowledge. Advanced studies include e.g. studies in pitch, music analysis and harmony theory, although with the new curriculum, the college aims to organize alternative study units as well. The average starting age of Mupe studies is 10 years. Our instrument teacher directs the student to mupe studies when he determines that the student is ready for them. Students in music classes complete skill level 1 studies at school in the 4th grade and have the opportunity to complete skill level 2 studies connected to the school day.
