The presence of Legionella bacteria and lead will be monitored

As a result of the EU's new drinking water directive, the updated domestic water regulation (1.1.2023/1352) has entered into force on January 2015, XNUMX, thanks to which special attention will be paid to legionella and lead in municipal health inspections. The goal is to secure the quality of domestic water from raw water all the way to the consumer's tap.

Until now, only legionella infections have been legally controlled. In the future, the presence of legionella bacteria will also be monitored on a risk basis in the water systems of buildings. In practice, this means that a risk assessment of water systems must be carried out in the future in the so-called priority facilities defined in advance.

- Such facilities are, for example, hospitals, swimming pools, saunas and hotels open to the public, environmental engineer Armi Kainulainen expose.
