The opening of the ski season will be celebrated in Imatra on Saturday, November 4.11.
Ensilumenlatu will celebrate the opening of the ski season on Saturday 4.11 November.
On the opening day, a four-hour skiing event will be organized on the first snow slope. The idea of the novelty event is to ski for four hours in one go.
—The style is free and skiers of all fitness levels are welcome to participate. Some of the participants will certainly be in competition gear, but fitness skiers are also very welcome to the event, sports tourism manager Jaakko Jäppinen About Imatra Base Camp (IBC) tells.
The event is organized in Imatra for the first time. Last year, a similar skiing event was held in Lahti, although the day was eight hours long.
—Eight hours seemed a bit ambitious at the beginning of the season, so four hours should be enough, says Jäppinen.
The four-hour skiing is organized by The Home of Sports in cooperation with Imatra Athletes. Register for the event in advance through websites. The participation fee is 109 euros, which includes, in addition to the event, an award dinner and a weekly ticket to the first snow slope. The event supports the activities of the Imatra Athletes.
Children can also get on the track
Before the four hours of skiing, children's ski competitions and a ski equipment flea market are organized on the first snow slope.
During the morning, you can try shooting on the biathlon bench, and Imatra Athletes' experts give tips on ski maintenance and lubrication.
Registration for the children's skiing competition is done before the start of the event. The competition is free of charge and every participant is given a prize.
The first snow slope opens for skiers on Thursday 19.10. Season passes are on sale at advance price 18.10. until.

Experience and new energy in the inaugural team - Imatra challenges Lappeenranta
Imatra participates in four hours of skiing with a five-person team.
The team includes the sports tourism manager of Imatra Base Camp (IBC). Jaakko Jäppinen and the coordinator Pauliina Kivinen, regional director of the South Karelia Association Satu Sikanen, Imatra Pallo-Veikko operations manager Mikko Reitti and an active skiing enthusiast Maria Sipari. Sipari is the first skier of short stature to ski Finlandia skiing.
Jäppinen and Sikanen participated in the Lahti eight-hour ski race last year as part of the Imatra team. Imatra was victorious in its series, and was also part of the team Anni Toiviainen won the women's series.
This year, Toiviainen is not in the team.
—He is replaced by Pauliina. He is a very good recruit, but he doesn't have skis yet, says Jäppinen.
—Perhaps because of that, Satu was worried about the state of our team and recruited Maria, who has proven to be able to ski Finlandia, Jäppinen continues.
This year, a team from Lahti is coming to Imatra to seek revenge. Jäppinen hopes for more teams from South Karelia to meet the challenge of the people of Lahti.
—I throw a challenge in the direction of the city of Lappeenranta: could there be additional reinforcement for the avalanche of Paijäthämälä people?
