The generations met in a middle school lesson

The ninth grade religion class was visited by Mervi Hasu and Maili Hanski from the city's elderly council.

Ethics has been the topic of religion classes.

—We have studied the ethics of different religions, human rights issues, ethical issues related to the life cycle, media ethics and environmental ethics. Towards the end of the course, we also reflect on a good life from the perspective of our own life, says the religion teacher Leah Laine From Mansikkala school.

Including the perspective of the elderly

The participation of members of the Senior Council in classes can support young people and open up perspectives brought by a longer lifespan.

The goal is that the young people also learn to see the elderly as actors and people who, in addition to a long life history, also have dreams for the future, even though they may be different from those of young people.

— The Elderly Council was delighted with the request for cooperation from the school and many of the council wanted to be involved. Immediately after the cooperation proposal, participants were received for three days, says the chairman of the city's elderly council Lilla Saaristo.
— We will continue to do this kind of cooperation with pleasure and we thank the teacher and students for being active, he continues.

Mervi Hasu ja Maili Ghanski told the students memories and experiences from their own lives. The students drew stories while listening to their own life story, which included their own most memorable moments in their lives so far. The end of elementary school is probably a memorable moment for ninth grade students.
