Take care of the food cold chain

In the summer, careful handling of food is important. Microbes grow quickly in warm weather, increasing the risk of food poisoning.

The Food Safety Authority would like to remind you of a few basic principles of food safety:

  • Make sure your hands are clean before, during, and after cooking.
  • Transport groceries quickly from the store to your home, use a cooler if necessary, and purchase products as close to your destination as possible.
  • Cold as cold - make sure the cold chain is unbroken.
  • Set the refrigerator to a sufficiently cold temperature: below +3 degrees for fish products and below +6 degrees for other products.
  • Handle raw and cooked foods separately and with different tools.
  • Cook meat products properly.
  • Serve the food immediately or cool it quickly.
  • Do not store food at room temperature.
  • Reheat the food to be reheated carefully.
  • Do not use non-standard utensils, such as aluminum cans or old/broken containers, to prepare or store food, as they can transfer substances harmful to health to the food.
