The representatives of the Ukrainian cooperation city Nizhyn will be at Imatra for the first time
Mayor of Nizhyn Oleksandr Kodola and council secretary Yuri Khomenko are visiting Imatra at the end of the week.
The guests arrived in the city already on Thursday evening and they were the first to watch the Ketterä Mestis final match.
—The ice hockey game was a fun experience and it was nice to cheer on Imatra. It's great that Ketterä won, Khomenko says.
On Friday, the leaders of the cities signed the partnership agreement.
— Cooperation with Nizhyn is meaningful to us in many ways. We want to show compassion to a city that lives in the shadow of war. We also hope that when the reconstruction comes, companies from Imatra will have the opportunity to participate in the cooperation. Now we are making contacts for the future, Mayor Matias Hilden says.
The topic is reconstruction, education and culture
Kodola and Khomenko are discussing with various parties about the reconstruction and related cooperation opportunities.
The Ukrainians' program for Friday included a visit to the Mansikkala school center and meetings between the leaders of the city, Mitra and Imatra Regional Development Company. On Friday afternoon, the guests got to know Ukrainian children's preparatory teaching and choir activities.
—It's really great to see how you invest in children and the future. Mansikkala school center is a modern school that students want to go to. I want to create that experience for our children as well. And thank you also for teaching our children here. In general, we want to thank the Finns and the people of Imatra for the support we have received, says Mayor Kodola.
The program of the visit also includes getting to know each other Imatran Lämpö company, Imatra and Kruununpuisto, as well as conversations with Ukrainians living here.
Kodola and Khomenko will return to Nizhyn on Monday.
