About one million euros flows into the projects of the city of Imatra every year. At the same time, the city is running small, short-term projects as well as large, multi-year development projects. The implementation of projects lasting more than a year is decided by the city government or the city council.
The projects have financed, for example, the construction of the Imatra border crossing, improving the learning environment of schools, international cultural cooperation, improving Vuoksi's recreational use and business development.
Projects can receive either national or international funding. Important financiers are the European Union, various ministries, the ELY center of South-Eastern Finland, the regional association of South Karelia and South Karelia's Kärki-LEADER association. In addition to external funding, projects must also have their own money.
