CBC Cycling
Current state
Cycling is trendy, an easy way to cross the border, and the number of Russian cyclists is increasing. On the Finnish side, a rather diverse cycling route has been developed and listed in electronic form. The project is intended to link the new future of the Russian side of the border cycling route Finnish side of the trail network as well as to describe and list along the cycling routes services. In addition, the routines are currently known to a relatively small number.
Cycling culture is new in Russia, so guidance is needed. More attention should be paid to cycling safety and harmonization of good practices on both sides of the border. Promoting security and sustainable development are important aspects of all project activities.
Project and objectives
The Cycling project aims to encourage safe and environmentally friendly cycling and to improve cycling on both sides of the border.
The project aims to equip the Svetogorsk border crossing for safe cycling and to design and build a new cycle path from Svetogorsk to the Finnish border. In addition, the project will provide the Russian authorities with recommendations for action on lawful measures to further promote cycling.
The project will also organize awareness-raising events for local people and cross-border cycling events with the aim of increasing the interest in cycling and promoting cycling as an ecological way to cross the border and explore the surrounding area.
Effects
The project supports the development of cycling and the design and use of cycling routes between Russia and Finland by improving infrastructure, safety and mobility. The project supports the sustainable use of the environment and the social development of the area.

Schedule
The project started on November 1, 2018, and the implementation in Imatra started in spring 2019. The project is a three-year project and is scheduled to end on October 31, 2021.
Costs
The cost estimate for the whole three-year period is € 1,979,050, of which € 1,583,240 is for the South East Finland - Russia CBC program. The estimated cost of the city of Imatra is € 88,428, of which self-financing is € 18,086.
