Around one million euros is used in the projects of the city of Imatra annually. The city is running small, short-term projects and large, multi-year development projects. For more than a year, projects are decided by the city board or city council.
The projects have financed, for example, the construction of the Imatra border crossing point, the improvement of the school's learning environment, international cultural cooperation, the improvement of Vuoksi recreational use and business development.
Projects can receive either national or international funding. Important financiers are the European Union, various ministries, the South East Finland ELY Center, the South Karelia Regional Council and the South Karelia Kärki-LEADER Association. In addition to external funding, projects must have their own money.
