Activity report of the Imatra and Ruokolahti disability council for 2024

1. General

2024 The Imatra and Ruokolahti Disability Council met four times.

2. Initiatives

The Disability Council did not take any initiatives in 2024. The Council still had to work on the initiative to build a barrier-free beach it took in 2021.

In 2023, a path from the parking lot to the beach and a sunbathing platform were built at Ukonniemi Beach. Since the amount of money allocated to the project was not enough to build a bottom pier, the city implemented changing rooms and a landscape pier in 2024, which had barrier-free access from a barrier-free changing room.

Thanks to the perseverance and activity of the Disability Council, the construction of the swimming ramp is expected to be completed in 2025, after which the barrier-free beach will be complete.

3. Statements

The Disability Council gave a statement to the Imatra Urban Development Board on the principles of competitive bidding for Imatra's local transport and the renovation of Vuoksenniska Airport.

4. Events

The Disability Council organized a Sight and Hearing Day at the Virta Cultural Center on September 10.9.2024, XNUMX. A hearing vehicle that performed hearing tests was present at the day. The Disability Council organized a Christmas lunch together with the Imatra Senior Citizens Council.

5. Visits

In 2024, the Disability Council visited the Imatra Ice Arena, the Imatra Work Training Center at Tainionkoskentie 3, and VillaKarelia, a facility for people with intellectual disabilities who need XNUMX-hour guidance, in connection with its meetings.
