During Senior Citizens' Week, 2 - 9.10 October. Imatra has a lot of programs aimed at the elderly
During Imatra's seniors' week, many things take place, organized by the city of Imatra, the parish and Eksoten.
In previous years, the Move with us event at the Ukonniemi arena has become the most popular during the senior citizens' week. This year too, on Thursday, October 6, around 300 elderly people are expected in Ukonniemi to enjoy togetherness and the joy of exercise.
At Imatra, as the chairman of the working group responsible for putting together the program for the senior citizens' week Sirpa Hämäläinen says that to a sports event minor reforms were made.
- Karaoke dances are new this year. Music and exercise also support the well-being of the elderly. That's why we brought karaoke to the event.
Another novelty of the sports event is the "Share your worries, share your joy" point. Visitors can share their worries, joys and wishes in private and, if they wish, also on video. A compilation of the videoed thoughts will be made, which will be published after the event.
Hämäläinen wants to spark a discussion about the issues of the elderly.
- Here is one opportunity to release joys or sorrows. At the same time, you can send a message to the elderly council, decision-makers or all the people of Imatra, he says.
Seniors week celebration belongs to the traditions of Imatra's senior citizens' week. The party will be held in the Karelia hall of Kulttuuritalo Virra on Wednesday, October 5.
In addition to the speeches, this year's celebration will include choral music from the Vuoksen Neiet girls' choir and the Tainionkoski church choir, a dance performance by Tanssistudio Jam, and an actor Aki Honkatukian stories and music.
