Actress Ulla-Maija Järnstedt and director Mervi Koskinen are good friends. The monologue, which will premiere at the end of August, is a long-term dream of the friends.

Spoonface Steinberg is a sad story at first glance: the 7-year-old, terminally ill Spoonface speaks in a monologue.

However, it is not a sad story, assure the actor Ulla-Maija Järnstedt and director Mervi Koskinen.

—The text includes the entire spectrum of life, but this is not a dark story about a little girl on her deathbed. Instead, this is a praise for life, Järnstedt describes.

The message is comforting: The important thing is that we are alive, not that we die someday. Järnstedt and Koskinen consider the message particularly relevant right now, in this world situation.

A long-time dream of friendship

Spoonface Steinberg is the first monologue of Järnstedt's career. With a monologue, he celebrates his more than 35-year career as an artist.

At the same time, he gets to realize his long-term dream of working together with his friend Merv.

—We have known each other since 1986. We are good friends and we decided a long time ago that someday we want to do a play where one acts and the other directs. Which way the roles would be placed, that has been an open question, says Järnstedt.

Both Järnstedt and Koskinen have been busy in their own theaters: Koskinen had a long career at the Savonlinna City Theatre, for example, while Järnstedt has worked closely at Imatra.

Time has not been found for joint production, not until now.

— I retired a couple of years ago, so we finally found a suitable time, Koskinen says.

Premiere at the end of August

The cooperation between the friends has gone excellently during the monologue rehearsals. Women know each other inside out and know half the word what the other wants to say.

— We really have fun, we enjoy training every day. However, that doesn't mean we agree on everything. I have also said against in some matters, Koskinen laughs.

The result of the collaboration will be seen on Teatteri Imatra's Pikku Hiisi stage from Saturday, August 27.8. from Ticket sales for the monologue are now open.
