Jiri Piepponen from Imatra has been going to football practice by bicycle for a couple of years now. It is easy and useful, he states.

It is a weekday evening in May at the edge of Linnala field.

Two children dressed in red Imatra Palloseura shirts are practicing on the field.

Four school-age children follow the events of the field on the side of the field, play while the time passes and wait for the start of their own training.

9 years old Jiri Piepponen bike turns up on his neon green bicycle.

—Hello! He exclaims, locks his bike with a cable lock, hangs his bike helmet on the handlebars and throws his backpack to the side of the field.

He arrived at football practice.

The equipment goes in a backpack

There is still twenty minutes until practice starts.

The coach has asked the boys to arrive at training on time. Jiri arrived, even though he made the training trip by bicycle.

It takes about a quarter of an hour to cycle, Jiri says. The distance from home to the edge of the field is about 2,1 kilometers in one direction.

"You can pedal it very quickly," he says.

The equipment can be conveniently carried in the backpack. There you can find a ball, a bottle and a phone. It's good to have it with you in case something happens.

"At the same time, muscles grow"

Jiri has played football in Imatra's Palloseura for three years. He has been walking to the exercises since he was 7 years old, Jiri's mother Hanna Piepponen says.

—He has always liked to go to Harkku by bike.

Practices are organized two or three times a week during the summer season.

—I have never had to wait to leave.

Why is cycling worth it?

- It's easy, not difficult at all. And at the same time the muscles grow, Jiri states.

He doesn't have time to talk anymore: it's time to run to the field to train.

Cycling week is celebrated from 6 to 15.5 May. Thursday 12.5. let's spend a bike to training day.
