With the help of the results, we know how to care for the trees in the future.

The condition of the linden trees growing along Vuoksentie is mapped by surveys. The trees will be imaged with a micro drill and an ultrasound device today, Monday, and tomorrow, Tuesday.

—This way we get researched information about the condition of the trees and whether there are, for example, decayed parts inside them, city gardener Erika Luhtanen says.

Based on the results, care instructions are drawn up for the trees.

—The purpose is to take care of lindens in the best possible way. Based on the results, we know, for example, whether the trees require other measures in addition to annual pruning.

If a single tree turns out to be rotten and dangerous to the environment, it may have to be cut down. However, the primary goal is that the trees are able to grow along the street for as long as possible.

Almost 100-year-old lime trees

Vuoksentie is lined with more than 80 linden trees. Luhtanen estimates that the trees are almost 100 years old.

—Their condition has never been properly studied. The trees are located in the street area and the Imatranajo street track also runs next to it. That's why we need to be sure that the trees are safe.

Similar studies are conducted at Imatra from time to time. In the past, the city has studied at least the trees in Koskipuisto.

The research is done by Silmu ja Sydänpuu Oy.
