Early voting for the regional elections begins on Wednesday, January 12.1.

Imatra has four early voting locations. You can vote in advance in the following places:

  • K-Citymarket (Tietäjänkatu 2)
  • Prisma (Karhumäenkatu 1)
  • S-Market Imatrankoski (Olavinkatu 8)
  • S-Market Vuoksenniska (Valvatinkatu 3).

You can vote in advance at any polling station, even in a municipality other than your home municipality.

The actual election day for the regional elections is Sunday 23.1. At that time, the person entitled to vote must vote at the polling station assigned to him.

The Digital and Population Agency has sent information about the polling place on election day to those entitled to vote.

At the polling stations, the instructions of the Institute of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Justice are followed, so that voting can be successful in a corona safe manner. A mask recommendation is in effect.

If a voter's physical and functional ability is weak, he can register to vote at home. At that time, you can vote in advance in your own home.

The regional council decides on social, health and rescue services

The January regional elections are the first ever regional elections. In the elections, 59 regional councilors will be elected to the council of the welfare region of South Karelia.

The welfare region will be responsible for the organization of social, health and rescue services in South Karelia from the beginning of 2023. The regional council is the highest decision-making body of the welfare region.

There are no municipality-specific quotas in the council, but the councilors represent the entire welfare area. Candidates running for office can be found from this link.
