Eksote vaccinates severely immunocompromised persons with the third corona vaccine

Release
24.9.2021 15:59
The third vaccine dose is also given to persons who have received the previous two corona vaccines with a short vaccination interval of 3 to 6 weeks in early 2021.

A three-dose vaccination series is recommended for severely immunocompromised persons over 12 years of age. According to studies, the response to a series of two vaccines is often incomplete in severely immunocompromised people. A third dose of vaccine completes their protection. The third dose of the vaccination series can be given when at least two months (60 days) have passed since the second vaccine dose.

The following groups are considered severely immunocompromised:

  • Organ transplant
  • Stem cell transplant
  • Severe or moderate congenital immunodeficiency
  • Immunosuppressive cancer therapy
  • Treatment of autoimmune diseases with immunosuppressive biological drugs or JAK inhibitors
  • Dialysis and severe chronic renal failure
  • Advanced or untreated HIV
  • Other severe immunosuppressive condition assessed by a physician

The third vaccine dose is also given to persons who have received two previous corona vaccines with a short vaccination interval of 3 to 6 weeks in early 2021, if at least 6 months (26 weeks) have passed since the vaccination.

The third vaccine dose is primarily given with the same preparation as the second vaccine dose, unless there is a medical obstacle.

The third doses should not delay the administration of the first and second vaccine doses.

Since the risk of severe corona disease in young people after two doses of the vaccine is small, THL has deemed it justified, according to the precautionary principle, to limit men under 30 who are not severely immunocompromised to the exclusion of their recommendation regarding third vaccine doses for the time being.
