Music for the provincial libraries

At the end of September, Imatra's city library will start the Music and reading project funded by the regional administration office. During that time, the librarian Mika Kähkönen goes around Heili libraries recommending music-related books together with musicians Heikki Pöyhä ja Pekka Ranta with. The project combines music and reading, because the duo plays the music that is told about in books and other materials. The performance also brings live music to smaller libraries in the Heili area.

- This is one of the best projects I have been involved in during my library career. I get to talk about music and listen to music from my work, that is, to do the same thing I do in all my free time, says Mika Kähkönen.

The goal of the project is not only to promote the hobby of reading, but also to market the library and especially the library's music offerings for young and middle-aged people. The project also highlights the fact that the modern library is a versatile cultural institution.

The trio Kähkönen-Pöyhiä-Ranta will visit a total of more than ten Heili libraries during the fall of 2021 and the beginning of 2022.
