Pets in the summer heat

In the summer heat, you shouldn't forget the well-being of your pets either.

Summer and hot weather are here again.

As temperatures rise, animals are unable to sweat and regulate their body heat in the same way as us humans. However, you can make the animal feel better on hot days in many ways. Pets should always have access to fresh water and the opportunity to stay in a shady and cool place. Strenuous exercise should be avoided and jogs should be left to either early morning or late evening.

Remember to watch the pet. A symptomatic animal that is panting heavily, is nauseous and apathetic, and whose breathing and heart rate are increasing, should be taken to a veterinarian for examination and treatment. A heat-exhausted pet needs cooling as a first aid, in which case the animal is moved to a cool place and its fur is cooled with cool water.

Never leave a pet in a hot car! No animal may be allowed to swim in water contaminated with blue-green algae either, as the animal can get poisoned by drinking water containing blue-green algae or licking its fur after swimming.

Let's take care of our pets while enjoying the summer!
