The work has a total of 54 characters from Vuoks.

A visual artist has been hung in the lobby of the Koski school center under construction Anne Tamminen artwork Vuo.

The work consists of silhouettes of bird and fish species that live in Vuoki. The artist has brought into the space, among other things, a mallard, a mallard, a coot, a cormorant, a gray grebe, a common plover, a walleye and a coot.

I wanted local aquatic animals for the piece. They form a current and meander through the space. Identifying species will be a nice addition to the school environment, says Anne Tamminen.

There are a total of 54 figures in the work, whose size varies between 70 and 130 centimeters. The material of the piece is laser-cut aluminum, which has been anodized to a silky matte finish. The smallest characters are blue.

Art for all schools

Anne Tamminen's Vuo is percentage art.

─ The city decided that every new school center will have art in the middle of everyday life. This is now the last and at the same time the fourth acquired work, the chairman of the school network reform steering group Anna Helminen says.

In Koski, percentage art is doubled, because the 60 euro art reservation was divided between two artists. It has already been revealed before artist Zindy Vähäkanka's work Fortitudo.

Tamminen and Vähäkangas were chosen based on an art competition. The competition was aimed at professional artists with an Imatra connection. Tamminen graduated as a visual artist from the Imatra Art Academy and later as a master of visual arts from the Academy of Fine Arts. He currently lives in Hämeenlinna.

In that sense, it was easy to do this work, because Imatra is so familiar and I still spend the summer in Imatra at the Big band camp. During my student days, I have illustrated the history of Imatra. The piece seemed like a fun point of convergence for everything I had experienced, says Tamminen.

The new building of the Koski school center will open its doors in August.
