Sapuskajelppi distributes food gift cards worth 50 euros to households that have experienced financial difficulties due to Corona.

Last year, 1 gift cards worth more than 800 euros were distributed for the purchase of daily necessities in a campaign devised by entrepreneurs from Imatra. The city of Imatra supported the campaign with a donation of 90 euros and is participating this year with a similar amount.

- Unfortunately, the difficult times caused by the pandemic have continued for a long time. Financial scarcity is currently a reality in more and more Imatra homes. Last year's Sapuskajelppi was a very successful project and reached the people of Imatra in need of help. The city wants to play its part in supporting the people of Imatra through this difficult time, says the deputy city manager Kaisa Heino.

The chairman of the Imatran Seudun Yrittäjai, which coordinates Sapuskajelppi Markus Sainio says that the campaign has also received additional funding from other parties.

- It warms the heart that our project has been perceived as important and that the city wants to support it more. According to the feedback we received, it has become clear that the help has also reached those who need help and it has really become necessary. Due to the prolonged pandemic, the number of people in need of help has also increased.

Sapuskajelppi is a campaign conceived by entrepreneurs that started last year. The campaign is one of the measures that was taken when the city and entrepreneurs were considering ways to support entrepreneurs and other people from Imatra who got into financial difficulties due to the corona.

- From the point of view of the entrepreneurs, this is just a social act that does not seek any financial benefit. At most, we get positive feedback. Many entrepreneurs have good networks, which makes it easier to organize help, explains Sainio.

In Sapuskajelp, supporters donate funds to the campaign to the Imatra Congregation. Those in need of help, on the other hand, contact the parish's diaconia work, which assesses the need for help and grants €50 gift cards to buy daily necessities.

We can start distributing gift cards during May-June.
