Ari Lindeman from Kouvola was elected as the new mayor of Imatra

Lindeman won the office election with 23-20 votes.

The city council of Imatra elected Imatra as the new mayor Master of Business Administration Ari Lindeman's. Lindeman is currently working at the University of Applied Sciences of Southeast Finland as research manager.

The decision was not unanimous. Lindeman received 23 votes in the council. Current Deputy Mayor Kaisa Heino got 20 votes. The council was allowed to vote for the mayor from among the 12 applicants.

17 councilors left a dissenting opinion on the decision: Anna Helminen, Tommi Matikainen, Airi Aalto, Mikko Airas, Sanna Prior, Kaisa Kontiainen, Anu Urpalainen, Jouko Partanen, Matti Hirvonen, Lilla Saaristo, Jerena Juutilainen, Päivi Marttila, Marja-Leena Patrakka, Helena Roiha , Irma Hujanen, Veikko Lankinen and Pentti Peltonen. Those who submit a dissenting opinion think that the decision is against the law.

Lindeman is expected to take up the position in the fall, when the current mayor Kai Roslakka takes annual leave before retirement.
