The three-week lockdown starts on March 8.3. Even before then, there will be restrictions on, for example, gatherings.

Imatra, along with the rest of the province, has entered the most serious phase of the corona epidemic, i.e. the spreading phase. About that the provincial covid situation group announced today

Hospital districts in the spreading phase are affected by the lockdown announced by the country's government on Thursday, which starts on March 8.3. It ends on 29.3.

During the shutdown, the second grade and the upper grades of basic education are in distance education. In addition, group hobby activities for children over the age of 12 will be suspended and the gathering limit for both private and public events is six people.

Since South Karelia has now entered the spreading phase, the gathering restriction will probably be introduced in the province earlier.

Now we are in a new situation again. I'm sure we all have a lot of questions and not all of them have answers yet. In the next few days, we will certainly get answers to most of the questions. In this respect too, it is now necessary to cope, deputy mayor Kaisa Heino says.

Changes in schools

The upper grades and upper secondary school will switch to distance learning after the winter vacation on March 8.3.

Early childhood education and lower classes will continue to operate as normal.

Those in distance learning are offered the possibility of dose distribution. The survey for high school students is currently underway, the corresponding survey for upper school students will be opened tomorrow Friday at the latest. The survey link and more detailed information will be sent to guardians via Wilma.

The aim is to carry out the matriculation examinations as planned according to the instructions of THL and the Matriculation Examination Board. There is a separate bulletin on the subject.

The premieres of the theater will be moved

It is already clear that the premiere of Teatteri Imatra will have to be postponed.

Teatteri Imatra moves the premiere of the musical Elämä ikkanken zakan from the beginning of March to the 9th of April. At the same time, the theater has to cancel all March shows.

This is shocking news, because the musical production is ready and waiting for the audience and we make theater for a live audience, theater manager  Timo Rissanen says.

The premiere of the children's play The Nutcracker will also be moved from the end of March to April.

Those who reserved their tickets for the canceled screenings will receive a refund for their reservations or can reserve tickets for later screenings. In this case, it is worth contacting the city hall's customer service ticket office. The matter can also be handled at the address https://teatteri-imatra.fi/lipunmyynti/peruuntuminen

Virta-opisti's adult groups are coming to an end

Adult teaching at Virta-opisti has been suspended until the end of March.

In practice, this means that the entire semester is now here, except for distance learning groups. Mostly a few groups can hopefully be continued in April, service manager of the culture and learning center Sarianna Purtilo says.

Information about children's music education will be announced in the next few days.

There will also be more information regarding libraries and museums after next Tuesday.

More detailed guidelines on exercise facilities next week

The restrictions on group exercise will also apply to sports clubs. Group sports for people over 12 years old must be suspended on 8.3. from It is possible that the restrictions will come into effect even earlier, but no clear policy has been made on this issue yet.

─ Here we are waiting for the guidelines of the provincial situation group and AVI, the head of the welfare services of the city of Imatra Arja Kujala says.

It is already known that groups of children under the age of 12 can have a maximum of 10 people.

─ We hope that the clubs can wait for more information. Tomorrow, Friday, we will certainly be wiser in terms of sports facilities, Kujala hopes.

The meeting of the next provincial situation picture group is next Tuesday. At that time, more detailed guidelines can be expected.

Youth services are moving to a remote model
