Snowfalls now employ plow drivers

Plowing is now slower than usual because there is a lot of snow. Foreman Hannu Varjus hopes for understanding from the townspeople.

The snow that rained last night is still being plowed from the residential streets, the main thoroughfares, bike paths and collector streets have been plowed.

- Depending on the contractors, the situation varies. There may be something left of the residential streets for tomorrow. However, drivers need to rest sometimes. We hope for understanding from Imatra taxpayers, foreman of Imatra Real Estate and Regional Services Oy Jarmo Varjus says.

According to Varjus, they are now trying to make room for the stormy snow expected on Tuesday evening as well. The machines have to be hard because of the amount of snow.

- Plowing is now half as slow as usual. The machine cannot drive at the same speed when there is so much snow.

About 20 centimeters of snow fell on Sunday, and similar amounts of rain are expected during Tuesday evening and night.

- Tuesday night's rain is so heavy that it may take until Thursday to get everything open, Varjus states.

During heavy snowfalls, the traffic lanes are kept in trafficable condition, the lanes are widened and the Lumia is driven away after the snowfall ends.
