"At the end of the week, we will consider whether school sports facilities can be opened for recreational use by children and young people."

The provincial corona situation group of South Karelia is today, Tuesday, January 12.1. stated that, in the acceleration phase, it is not possible to relax the restrictions on leisure time that are valid until further notice.

The pressure of leisure workers and sports clubs to expand operations is understandable, but in terms of staying in the acceleration phase, it would be important to keep all previous restrictions in force. Any increased activity that increases the number of contacts increases the risk of the situation getting worse and even spreading. Restrictions related to hobbies and gambling will be specified in separate meetings of the municipalities and Eksoten. Operators should be prepared for national or regional recommendations and changes that change quickly, says the chairman of the provincial situation picture group Tuula Karhula in the bulletin of the situation group.

The modified coronavirus found in Britain has also been found in South Karelia. However, a virus transformation can quickly change the situation in an even more serious direction than before.

Adult hobby activities limited

Adult hobby activities should therefore still be limited.

Sports associations are looking for ways to enable different tournaments and game trips, but it is difficult to decide regionally. Eksote and the South Karelian municipalities have hoped for a national policy on the matter, but we will discuss the matter locally in the next few weeks, chief doctor of outpatient healthcare Sami Raasakka says.

For Imatra, the above-mentioned recommendation means that the restrictions will not be changed regarding sports facilities. No additional training sessions are granted for adult hobby activities.

We are waiting for further instructions from the ministry and THL. Hobby activities for children and young people can continue in accordance with previous recommendations. From the end of the week, we will consider whether the school sports facilities can be opened for their hobby use, Imatra's head of welfare services Arja Kujala says.
