More responses to the Imatra challenge than expected
27 students and student groups from different parts of Finland took part in the Imatra challenge, which was announced before Christmas. The city of Imatra invited university students to come up with ideas for the city's future and diversification of the city's economic structure.
─ We received several presentations for the Imatra challenge from LUT University, LAB University of Applied Sciences, XAMK and the University of Helsinki. In addition, individual presentations came from Vaasa University of Applied Sciences, UEF, and from Helsinki's Hanken and Haaga-Helia. The number of participants is a really happy surprise. There is a lot of interest in Imatra among students, the coordinator of the challenge and PhD student at the University of Helsinki Saku Tihveräinen says.
The reception of the challenge also pleased the city of Imatra.
─ The number of students motivated by the challenge is amazing. The competition answers received will be distributed to the new council and will be used in the city's strategy work in the future. Imatra wants to involve people in developing the city in a new way, Deputy Mayor Kaisa Heino says.
An authoritative jury
Next, the competition answers are evaluated to justify their potential benefit. The three best performances will be selected during January. The best competition answer will receive a prize of 3 euros.
The answers are evaluated by a jury, which includes Santander Finland's CEO Peter Sjöberg, United Nations Technology and Innovations Lab Manager Razi Latif, director of Stora Enso's Imatra factories Mikko Nieminen, LAB's student agent Kaisa Vainikka and chairman of the Imatra city council Anna Helminen.
The response period for the challenge competition ended last weekend.
