THL recommends the use of a mask in the future for people over 12 years old

The distribution of masks will start in Imatra's schools on Monday.

THL has updated the mask recommendation for citizens on Friday evening. From now on, the use of a face mask is recommended for people over 12 years old.

The background is the recommendation of the World Health Organization WHO, according to which 12-year-olds and older should follow the principles of mask recommendations for adults. 

THL recommends using a face mask throughout the country. In the phase of the epidemic's acceleration and spread, the mask recommendation applies to elementary schools from the sixth grade, as well as secondary education institutions and universities. In elementary schools, the mask recommendation is carried out by grade level, regardless of the age of individual students. 

─ We are ready to start distributing masks to students in schools as soon as Monday. Students are also allowed to wear their own masks at school. It would be great if, during the weekend, the guardians could advise their children at home on the correct use of masks, the head of welfare services of the city of Imatra Arja Kujala says.

The recommendation also applies to hobby facilities

During the acceleration and spread phase, the use of a mask is also recommended in all work communities, as well as in the indoor spaces of hobby and volunteer activities, if several people work and stay in the same space.

─ We remind you that the new recommendation must also be taken into account in hobby activities for 12-year-olds and older. You can reach and leave exercises with masks in all sports and cultural facilities in the city of Imatra.

Memo list for mask use 

  • Wash or disinfect your hands before putting on a new or clean mask.
  • Put the mask on your face well before getting on the transport.
  • Make sure the mask fits tightly on the face and covers the mouth, nose and chin.
  • Do not touch the mask or move it under the chin or on the forehead during use.
  • If you touch the mask during use, wash or disinfect your hands before and after touching.
  • Do not Re-wear a used mask. 
  • Replace the mask with a new one if it gets wet or dirty.
  • Remove the mask with clean hands by grasping its straps. Do not touch the outside of the mask. 
  • Put the disposable mask directly in the garbage after use and the reusable cloth mask in a plastic bag or directly in the washing machine.
  • Wash or disinfect your hands after removing the mask.
  • Wash the fabric mask at 60 degrees every time after use or boil it for five minutes in water with a little detergent added. Rinse the mask and dry it in a place with fresh air.
