In the countryside of Southern Karelia, we are looking for a builder or craftsman who will make a building, the construction of which has consciously used recycled material. The building can be small or large. I hope that a new product could be created from it. The search will continue until the end of February 2021.

Do you want to consume sustainably and recycle as efficiently as possible?

Do you want to come up with ideas for new products from recycled material?

Most of the material used can be utilized so that it does not become waste. Recycling of materials is part of climate work.

Do you want to save and reduce the amount of waste and reduce waste?

Material reuse in construction

Go to South Karelia! - the project promotes sustainable material consumption and reuse in everyday life. We want to improve the recycling of construction and demolition materials.

-We are looking for a suitable site where construction and demolition material can be used for new construction. Whether the target is a house or a playhouse or something in between, says the project leader Anna-Maija Wikström. We are looking for a subject and author by the end of February 2021.

An example object should be one whose construction has consciously used recycled material. In addition, it should preferably be such that it could be commercialized.

Recycling workshops in villages

Next year, recycling workshops will be organized together with SaimaanVirta ry's Kierärätyti Kyliin project.

First, the workshop will be held in Imatra on Wednesday, March 10.3.2021, XNUMX, and then in other municipalities where there are willing participants. Of course, we take into account the corona guidelines. In the recycling workshop, all kinds of new products are made from recycled materials by crocheting, sewing, knitting, or whatever. In the workshop, ideas can be born, for example for products to be sold.

Workshops in winter and spring will be announced more closely on the project's website: www.imatra.fi/HinkuaEteläKarjalaan

Village loan companies

Shared use can reduce consumption and save on purchasing goods. Go to South Karelia! - project also promotes the sharing of goods in the villages.

- It is possible to establish goods lending companies, i.e. village lending companies together with associations or municipalities.

Reducing waste also saves

The project also encourages the reduction of material waste. For example, municipal institutions, companies and associations could join the cooperation to reduce material waste. Together with the project, the possibilities of Downsizing can also be reviewed. The company is promoted on the project's website and in the communication as a factor in climate action.

Reducing the loss of manufacturing materials also reduces material costs. By reducing the amount of waste that goes to waste, waste costs are saved. And the harmful effects on the climate are also reduced. Someone's waste can also be someone else's material.

Go to South Karelia! - the project is implemented by the Imatra regional environmental agency and the Lappeenranta regional environmental agency. The project implementation period is March 1.3.2020, 31.12.2022–December 350, 000. The project's budget is €XNUMX and it is financed by the Rural Development Program of Mainland Finland of the Southeast Finland ELY Center.
