Fossil-free district heating reduces carbon dioxide emissions caused by heating and brings savings.

Imatra's reception center has switched to using fossil-free district heating produced with bioenergy in October.

The change has significant climate effects: switching to district heating reduces carbon dioxide emissions from heating the property by approximately 280 kg per year. The change corresponds to the reduction of the annual carbon dioxide emissions of more than 000 detached houses to zero.

- In the target plan of the reception center, environmental issues are well presented and cost-effective use of real estate is the general goal. The introduction of district heating gave us the opportunity to use fully domestic and biofuel-produced energy instead of imported gas, CEO Ilkka Lyly Tells about Unique Hotels Oy. The reception center is located in the Hotelli Vuoksenhovi property owned by Unique Hotels Oy.

A big impact on the city of Imatra's climate goals

In addition to the climate benefits, switching to district heating brings the reception center significant savings in heating costs and guarantees high-quality heating of a demanding and large property.

- The carefree and cost-effectiveness of the new technology frees up funds and energy for the general improvement of the property's condition. It can already be said that the repair needs and costs caused by old-fashioned heating technology have decreased, says Lyly,

The new district heating customer is significant for Imatran Lämpö Oy and the city of Imatran. The change has a big impact on the implementation of the climate program of the city of Imatra.

- We are very satisfied that we got a significant building covered by district heating. Cooperation also opens up other possibilities. If necessary, our experts can, for example, introduce and tell the residents of the center about Finnish community heating and other energy supply. As an example, we can use the building's own heating system, CEO Vesa-Pekka Vainikka states about Imatran Lämpö Oy.
