The budget includes, among other things, a provision for the design of the Vuoksi canal and 70 euros for the development of youth services.

The Imatra city council approved the 2021 budget today, Monday, after actively discussing it.

The discussion took place, among other things, about vitality, youth services and especially the channel connecting Vuoksi and Saimaa. After a break in negotiations, the channel received planning money of a maximum of 100 euros presented by the city government.

The budget's annual margin is just under 9,3 million euros, which leads 46 euros to the deficit budget. The deficit is due to the fact that the council unanimously increased 70 euros for the development of youth services for next year. The city government is preparing the use of that amount in cooperation with the youth council.

─ I am satisfied that in these times Imatra wants to invest especially in young people and strengthen the role of the youth council, chairman of the city council Niina Malm says.

Tax rates unchanged

The city's income and property tax rates will remain unchanged. The income tax rate is the lowest in the province, i.e. 20 percent.

The budget includes a total of 525 euros in vitality investments by the city government. During the next year, the city government will use that amount for vitality projects that are expected to increase the city's attractiveness and create the conditions for a new type of business activity. One such project is the construction of the Mellonmäki Trail Center. This project will receive funding of 100 euros on the condition that the Trail Center receives external 000 percent project funding.

A good 7 million euros will be used for urban infrastructure investments next year. The council discussed the dog park, but the final decision will be left to the urban development board when it decides on the use of its investment allocation.

1,8 million euros have been set aside for completing the investments in the school network. That amount will be used to refurbish, among other things, the Linnala and Imatrankoski fields, as well as purchase furniture and ICT equipment for the Koske school.
