The students of Vuoksenniska School Center saw with their own eyes today how a trout grows and develops in the city stream of Imatra.

The students went to see electrofishing done for research purposes. The trip to Ivonnieme is part of the study package from salmon fry to dinner table.

Tuomas Rautainen ja Hermammi to Pinomäki a trip to the city stream is a pleasant way to go to school.

What was new to Rautiainen was that trout spawn in gravel and have fat fins. Pinoämeli, on the other hand, found out why the urban stream was made and how researchers study electrofished fish.

Rautiainen often fishes at the cabin. The prey fish is a pike and the fishing gear is a snare. Pinomäki, on the other hand, is not a fan of fish, although according to him, the fish project beats normal biology lessons.

Special education teacher Tuula Toivakka take students out of the classroom as much as possible, to learn through practice.

- In the spring, we were fishing in Vuoki during the classroom teaching period. Then we make salmon dishes in home economics classes and we go to Lohela to watch salmon filleting, Toivakka tells about the multidisciplinary study unit he built around salmon.

ELY Center's leading water economy expert by the town stream Pekka Vähänäkki tells about Vuös and its fish population, the urban stream, electrofishing and other work aimed at the recovery of the trout population in Vuös.

- The number of fat-finned trout in fishermen's catches has increased year by year. I'm sure most of them come from the urban stream, Vähänäkki says.
