Attached are questions and answers for students and guardians facing the new.

On August 13, historical and exciting times will be experienced at the Mansikkala school center. At that time, children and young people start at Finland's largest wood school. Shift care has already started operating in the new premises today.

The wooden school has been built since the fall of 2018, and during the past summer, preparations have been made on the construction site and at the planning tables for the admission of approximately 1400 children and young people. In the new school, 750 elementary school students, 410 high school students and 310 preschool and early childhood education children will start the academic year.

Traffic arrangements and parking lots will be completed by the start of school. Stonework, finishes and grassing will be done even after this. The Krimi parking lot is in use after the school starts, but its asphalting will be carried out later. The new roof of the vocational school's bus stop will also be installed during the fall.

Attached are some questions and answers to facilitate the start of school in Mansikkala. It is good to talk about these things with children and young people at home before school starts.

1.) How do you get to the new school center?

The city recommends that schoolchildren arrive on foot or by bike.

There are bus stops near the school on both Koulukatu and Tainionkoskentie. Everyone must obey traffic rules. Transfers to the other side of Tainionkoskentie and Koulukatu must be made through new underpass tunnels. Fences have been installed in the middle lane on Tainionkoskentie, so traffic is completely blocked here.

If parents bring their children by car, the drop-off place for students is along Tainionkoskentie.

Early childhood education children have their own drop-off place along Karjaportinkatu and Ruokosuonkatu. In addition, there are parking spaces near the kindergarten doors for dropping off early childhood education.

In the school area, each age group has its own entrances. They are shown on the attached map.

2) Where do staff and high school students leave their cars?

Staff parking spaces are generally at the end of the school center on the Ruokosuonkatu side. This parking lot is reserved just for the staff.

Students can leave their cars and mopeds in the Crimea parking lot. Staff and visitors can also leave their cars here.

Eksoten customers can park by the main door. This small parking lot is not used by staff or students. Spaces are reserved for Eksoten's staff along Karjaportikatu.

Karjaportikatu has a few random, unreserved places. The parking lots along Ruokosuonkatu are for short-term parking. These places are spherical.

3) What about moped parking and bike racks?

There are four storage places for bicycles. They can be seen on the map above. Mopeds should also be left in the moped park, which is located at the corner of Ruokosuonkatu and Tainionkoskentie. Leaving mopeds in the bike park or in the car parking area is not allowed.

4) On the first day, are the teachers facing their own teaching groups in the yard?

The teachers and school personnel are in front of all elementary education students in the school yard. Wilma will send more detailed instructions on where to meet on the first day of school on August 13.8.2020, XNUMX. More detailed instructions are also sent to high school students.

5) Where can high school students and high school students store their personal belongings? Are there lockers in the school?

At the same grade level, certain spaces in the property are available. Students in grades 1-6 of basic education will have their own home space, where they can keep their backpacks, for example. Under the guidance of teachers, you can also study in other facilities of the school center.

There are storage lockers for middle school and high school, no one can reserve their own locker for a longer period of time, only for hours. The lockers work with a code lock.

6) How is labor peace guaranteed in a large school without traditional classes?

In terms of basic education, there are ultimately only two larger open teaching spaces. Otherwise, there are modern teaching spaces with, for example, glass walls. There is less open space than closed space. The image of large open learning spaces alone does not correspond to reality.

7) How are the breaks staggered or does the whole school spend them at the same time? Does each class have their own parts in the yard?

Intermediate classes are not held at the same time for everyone. Grades 1-6 follow their own schedule and grades 7-9 follow their own rhythm. If, for example, the corona epidemic requires it, these schedules can be staggered further.

The high school lives its everyday life mainly in the same rhythm as the middle school.

The daycare center has its own fenced yard area. Preschool and lower classes can also use these areas to some extent.

Basic education also uses Kostinpuisto during longer breaks.

By default, the subclasses do not have intramural classes. In the middle school, initially, there are a few compulsory outdoor lessons. In high school, the recesses are self-selected as far as outdoor activities are concerned.

8) How is the meal organized?

The canteen is on the first floor, near the Giant's Staircase and the hall downstairs.

Meals take place between 10.30:13.00 and XNUMX:XNUMX in stages according to the order of each chapter. In principle, the older ones eat last, depending of course on what time the students start school.

The canteen has more than 300 seats.

9) Are familiarization visits organized for students and guardians and when?

Getting to know the guardians and pupils of 1-2 grade pupils will be organized on 10.8. from 16.00:18.00 to XNUMX:XNUMX.

Getting to know the parents and children of pre-school children is on August 10.8 from 14.30:16.30 to 3.8:XNUMX. If the children do not start early childhood education until XNUMX August, you can arrange a familiarization visit later with the child's own early childhood education group.

10) When will the townspeople get to see the school center?

The open house for city residents will probably be held at the beginning of October, if the corona epidemic does not change the plans. There will be more information about this in the fall.
