The quality of the domestic water in Lake Immalan is monitored.

The heavy rain of the night before Wednesday caused overflow situations at at least two pumping stations in Imatra.

Overflows, i.e. flooding of wastewater into waterways, occurred in Isokallio and Meltola. In Koivuniemi, the situation at the Saunalahti pumping station is still under investigation.

There was still an overflow in Meltola on Wednesday at noon. The impact of the leak on Lampsijoki is being investigated.

In Isokallio, the overflow situation is over. The overflow from Isokallio flowed into Lake Immalanjärvi, from where the city takes part of its domestic water.

About 30 cubic meters of waste water flowed from Isokallio into the waterway last night. However, the risk is not very significant, as the leak site is a kilometer away from the domestic water intake point, acting director of health control Jorma Korttinen says.

At the Immalanjärvi water intake, water treatment has been enhanced just to be sure, and water samples are taken more often than normal.

The overflow has no effect on the wider recreational use of Lake Immalanjärvi. However, it is not recommended to swim in the unofficial swimming spots of Isokallio and Myllyksenkatu during the next couple of days.
