In South Karelia, the spring semester of elementary schools and high schools ends on Saturday, May 30.5.2020, XNUMX. Due to the corona pandemic, school spring parties and graduation parties are not organized, but possible celebrations have been postponed either virtual or to a later date. The youth activities of Lappeenranta and Imatra urge young people to celebrate the end of the school year virtually this year.

Lappeenranta vs. the youth director Kimmo Hölkin according to Lappeenranta, the traditional School's Out youth event will not be organized this year.

- We have put together tips and virtual options for celebrating school closing day. The tips are gathered together under the heading #virtualschoolsout. In addition to the content produced by youth centers, young people are offered, among other things, nationwide virtual concerts such as YleXPop.

Other celebrations related to the end of school should also be organized either virtually or taking into account the instructions and restrictions of exceptional circumstances. According to Hölk, it is good to remember that, for example, the ten-person gathering limit is valid until June 1.6.2020, XNUMX.

Setting boundaries is caring

Representatives of youth activities also urge parents to talk with children and young people about why it is now important to follow the given instructions and gathering restrictions. Responsible for Imatra's youth work Marika Vento reminds us that in this exceptional situation we must all bear responsibility for our own and others' safety and health.

- In this situation, setting boundaries for children and young people is caring. We also warmly recommend parents networking with each other. The rules of the game can be agreed together with other families to make it easier to stick to them. Help and support for setting boundaries can be obtained, for example, from school curators, youth services or MLL's parent phone, Vento advises.

The virtual schoolsout program includes, among other things, the cooking war that will be held as Instalive at Sammontor youth facilities in Lappeenranta and the electronic online youth facility of Imatra, which will be on Friday 29.5. open until 21.00:XNUMX. In Lappeenranta, the youth activity starts on 29.5. with young people on their own and 30.5. as part of the School's Out walk organized by the parish association. The youth work at Imatra starts at the beginning of June. In both cities, guided activities for young people are also planned during the summer, and in addition, some of the youth facilities will be opened during June, taking into account AVI's guidelines. More information about the opening of youth centers and summer activities is provided on the city's youth activities' own websites.
