The largest wooden school in Finland will be covered by a Vuoksi-themed work

William Dennisuk's silhouette respects architecture and light.

A visual artist will be made on the wall of Finland's largest wood school in Mansikkala William Dennis too an environmental artwork inspired by Vuos.

The school network reform steering group approved Dennisuk's draft before Easter. The work is scheduled to be ready next fall, tentatively at the end of August.

Light and lighting

Acid resistant the work made of stainless steel is located on the outer wall of the wooden school's sports section. It can be seen from Koulukatu. Vuoksi's silhouette is cut out of steel.

The plates are finishedughn polished, on a mirror-like surface so that the work reflects the surrounding environment, says Dennisuk.

He has designed the work so that it and the architecture support each other.

The building's windows form a visual line with the work. You triedän create a connection with architecture and etcäröivughn landscape, the artist says.

One element of the work is light. Art shows different depending on the time of day or season. This is also supported integrated lighting design.

However, the scope of the lighting plan depends on whether the work receives a grant applied for.

The biggest question mark regarding the completion of the work is the effects of the corona epidemic on the supply of material and the sufficiency of authors. Dennisuk has preliminarily inquired, among other things, from LUT University, whether it could help with laser cutting of steel.

Percentage art for all schools

William Dennisuk is a visual artist living in Imatra, who teaches at LAB University of Applied Sciences.

The preliminary cost plan for the work is just under 60 euros.

In all three school centers, art is acquired or has already been acquired in accordance with the principles of percentage art.
