Efforts in Rauha-Ukonniemi have yielded results according to the Taloustukkimas.

According to a report made by Tuoreen Taloustutkimus Oy, the investments made in the Rauha and Ukonniemi area have paid off.

We have not previously had an external evaluator's facts about the results. The study revealed that sports and sports tourism accumulates a significant additional income for the region, CEO of Imatra Base Camp Jukka Aallikko says.

The study surveyed the benefits of sports tourism income from various services and trade from 2019. Based on these, the region was left with a pot of 7,8 million euros last year. In addition to this, EUR 3,3 million of tourism income is something that cannot be allocated regionally.

Rauha-Ukonniemi is growing into a major sports events center, Research Director of Taloustuikkumas Pasi Holm states based on the results.

Sports increased overnight stays by almost 30

Last year, the camps increased domestic and foreign overnight stays by a total of 12. Spectators who took part in larger sporting events accounted for approximately 780 overnight stays in addition to other tourists.

The events and games of various sports also increase the number of nights spent by enthusiasts in the area by about 7000. Thus, all in all, the increase brought by exercise and sport tourism to the region was almost 30 overnight stays.

Biathlon and ice hockey attracted

Hockey (6360 nights) and biathlon (2920) brought the most overnight camping nights to the area.

It's great that the competition teams of shooting and cross-country skiing have also taken Imatra as their campsite, thanks to the first snow slope. The stadium's investments have clearly been covered. With these income streams that enliven business life, we can secure comprehensive and versatile conditions for the exercisers of Imatra to exercise and gather to exercise with family and friends in the wonderful conditions of Ukonniemi, vs. Deputy Mayor Kaisa Heino says.
