Ilmari Saarelainen, one of Finland's legendary actors, plays the role of Norman Thayer

Every summer, Norman Thayer and his wife Ethel arrive at their summer villa in Kultalammi, which is located on the coast of Maine. However, this summer will be different, after forty-six years together, the evening of life is ahead, and there is no certainty if there will be another summer. Their love is deep and has made them the best of friends. They are like the two loons who swim in the pond from summer to summer. This summer, Norman, who is 10 years older than Ethel, turns 80, and their daughter Chelsea is coming to visit, along with her new boyfriend Bill and her 13-year-old son Billy - with the intention of leaving Billy in the care of Ethel and Norman for the "young couple's" trip to Europe.

This heartwarming, charming and touching comedy talks about giving up, the gap between generations and long togetherness, the unexpected future of old age. The golden lake is like a warm breath that leaves a feeling of well-being for a long time.

To the director of Teatteri Imatra, who directs the work Timo Rissanen Kultalampi is a "terribly beloved play."

- I was watching in 1979, when the play premiered. In Finland people were awakened and the National Theater performed it as the first theater in Europe. The play has remained in my memory as one of the milestones of my youth. A very wistfully beautiful play, describes Rissanen Kultalampe.

Kultalampi is one of the most performed warm-hearted comedies in the world, which has been translated into 30 languages, it has been performed in more than 40 countries and on six continents. In its Oscar-winning film version Henry fonda ja Kathryn Hepburn played the main roles.

Norman Thayer is played by one of Finland's legendary actors Ilmari Saarelainen, who people know as the original Juhana of the famous Tankki riinne series, and also as the hilarious character of the Sisko ja sen veli series. Saarelainen has had a long career at Tampere's Työväen Theatre, as well as amused the audience on his tours with a one-man play.

Saarelainen is coming to Imatra with the greatest expectations. Jumping into a new ensemble is always an adventure, even if the play is familiar.

- I really like the text, which is full of warmth. If it could be brought out. You never know what's going to happen when you come across new actors to work with, Islander ponders.

Ethel is played by an actress from Teatteri Imatra Ulla-Maija Järnstedt.
