  1. Values ​​and mission statement

Our daycare's values ​​are openness, tolerance and creativity, as well as commitment to cooperation and the principles of a sustainable lifestyle.

"I study and act in the local nature and environment" is the central operating method and content of our daycare center. In addition to this, an important area of ​​emphasis is exercise. We make effective use of our daycare's local exercise facilities.

2. Concept of learning

The concept of learning is based on our view of the child as an active actor. Children learn by interacting with other people and the surrounding environment.

Learning is holistic and happens everywhere. It combines knowledge, skills, action, emotions, sensory perceptions, bodily experiences and thinking. The starting point for learning is the children's previous experiences, their interests and skills. Play is a central way of working for us. It promotes the child's learning, development and well-being.

3. Pedagogical activity and assessment

Our kindergarten has a supportive atmosphere that encourages everyone to experiment, try and make mistakes, and notice the positive sides of things. Our modus operandi is holistic teaching, which we call project learning. Project learning gives children the opportunity to influence activities and teaching and to participate in its evaluation. Our goal is to promote the child's learning and well-being as well as wide-ranging competence. We plan the activity in such a way that the children have the opportunity to experiment, practice, learn and learn new skills in various areas of learning. Children have the opportunity to use information and communication technology as a teaching tool and part of everyday life. In particular, we pay attention to the open and encouraging interaction between adults and children, as well as the adult's ability and sensitivity to recognize children's initiatives and emotional states.

Our operating culture includes continuous observation and evaluation. We use pedagogical documentation to plan, implement and evaluate activities.

Parents' observations about their child's development, learning and well-being are also taken into account in the planning and implementation of activities. The children also learn to self-evaluate their own learning, e.g. in the way that the children's work is displayed in the kindergarten and they are looked at together and can be returned to later.

4. Participation and sense of community

We consider it important to support children's developing participation and influence skills and to encourage self-initiative. Encountering children with respect, listening to their thoughts and responding to initiatives strengthens children's participation and influencing skills. The children plan, implement and evaluate the activities together with the staff. In a supportive atmosphere, children boldly express their thoughts and wishes. Together we rejoice in successes and insights.

5. Cooperation in Virasoja's kindergarten

The goal of the cooperation is the joint commitment of guardians and staff to promoting children's healthy and safe growth, development and learning. In cooperation with parents, trust, equal interaction and mutual respect are important to us. In communication, we use bulletins, bulletin boards and Wilma communication. Children's import and application situations are a natural way to exchange ideas with parents. We take care of regular discussions with parents. If necessary, we use TLP conversations. In addition, we organize parents' evenings open to everyone as needed. We cooperate with the counseling service, child welfare and other healthcare and social services (Eksote) operators. Other partners are e.g. parish, sports clubs and cultural actors.

6. Physical learning environment

The spaces and materials of our daycare center are designed for functional and experience-based learning. The facilities are used flexibly and with an emphasis on small group activities. Children participate in building learning environments. Adaptability of the learning environment is important as the age structure of the children varies each year.

The yard encourages physical outdoor activities. Great camping and forest playgrounds are next to our kindergarten, as well as a sports field. Versatile learning environments in our daycare center support children's activity. It is important to us that learning environments provide opportunities for play, creative solutions and exploration.
