The first ice sculptures of the winter on the side of the first snow slope

Juuso Partanen and Katri Verronen make two ice sculptures for the opening of the first snow slope. The ice needed for the sculptures is made in an ice machine and the sculptures will be ready at the opening. The sculptures are illuminated, so they also shine in the dark.

One of the sculptures will be placed on the right side of the Kylpyläntie between the ice rink and the Kohonkankaantie roundabout, and the other at the end of the Ukonniemi stadium at the beginning of the first snow slope.

- I wanted to try the colors of autumn frozen in my sculpture, says Juuso Partanen from his own sculpture.
- I hope the sculptures will last for a while, they are, however, quite large.

Ice concerts will be heard in Varpasaari again next winter

Two igloos are planned to be built, one of which will serve as a concert space and the other is to be used as a workspace for musical instruments and sculptures. Ice carving courses are also being planned for the igloo. The construction of the igloos is supposed to start in January and the concerts will start in February.
- We can't do anything about it, but I think we've already learned something about the ice over the years, so we can get something to Varpasaari, says Partanen.

Katri Verronen is a final year sculpture student at Saimaa University of Applied Sciences and Juuso Partanen is known as the chairman and ice builder of the SounDome association.
