The change will take effect already this fall.

Imatra is waiving the night-time switching off of street lights. The issue will be presented in the urban development board on 22.10.

- We have received a lot of feedback on the matter. The board has also discussed the issue during the fall. During the preparation of the next year's budget, a strong position was taken on turning off the street lights at night. In the same context, we investigated the option that night-time shutdowns could be abandoned as early as this fall. We try to find the cost effects from within our area of responsibility, director of urban development Topiantti Ääks says.

About 75 percent of Imatra's lighting network is turned off at night. Night firings has so far been implemented on weekdays from midnight to five in the morning. On weekends, the lights are turned off until three in the morning.

- The matter clearly has a wider impact on the sense of security of the municipal residents.
