A clear message from the council seminar: examine the cost structure critically and invest in vitality measures

In its seminar on Friday, the Imatra city council discussed policies for the preparation of the budget.

The council gave the office holders the framework within which the finances for the next two years must be planned.

The clear message was that the city's economy must be on a sound footing, i.e. the annual margin must be sufficient for depreciation. This means that the annual profit next year should be around 8,8 million euros. There are four million euros to raise in this autumn's budget preparation.

In the council's opinion, the primary way to balance the economy is a critical examination of the expenditure structure. Other balancing options were not excluded from the selection of means either.

We must see ahead and be ready to make changes if necessary. You have to have the courage to change direction. We have to think about measures for the people of Imatra in the future, who are still children, the chairman of the council Niina Malm stated.

The further development of Ukonniemi is supported

The economy is not balanced just by cutting expenses. Growth in euros is sought by increasing vitality, especially through new companies. In order for the city to remain at its current size, approximately 2oo new jobs are needed every year.

In the council's group work, the further development of Ukonniemi was brought up as an idea that would increase vitality.

Other vitality ideas listed include the development of zoning and business services. For example, the zoning of beach plots was not considered impossible.

The seminar also advocated enhancing city marketing, supporting wooden construction and improving the functionality of public transport.

All development now focuses especially on young people and families with children, as well as environmental issues, Malm emphasizes.

Prevented by these policies, the actual processing of the budget in the city council will start on September 8-9.9. The city council will give the final seal to the budget in November.
