Two of the daycare network's alternatives are coming up for further review

The selection of alternatives will be presented to the welfare committee next week.

The city of Imatra is currently preparing to renew the early childhood education service network.

Initially, six different options were prepared, but the list was supplemented with a seventh G model as the preparation progressed.

Alternatives are the strongest in civil service preparation F ja G, which do not include expansions or privatization of the current daycare centers. In these two options, the intention would be to utilize the current, usable facilities. In option F, alterations would be made to the pre-school facilities in the Tainionkoski school building and kaction early childhood education group.

In option G, it would be investigated whether it would be possible to place three groups of 5-year-olds in connection with the preschool and primary education facilities of the new Mansikkala school center.

─ This requires, among other things, a review of the functionality of dining, outdoor activities and escort transport arrangements, head of early childhood education services Minna Leinonen says.

The reason for narrowing down the options is the more detailed forecasts of the number of children in recent weeks and the new government program. It is possible that the number of children will decrease more than was anticipated at the beginning of the preparation. The city has received From exotel forecast of the number of children born in 2019, and based on that, approximately 150 children will be born in Imatra. If the number of children born remains at this level for several years, it will have an impact on the space capacity for early childhood education needed in the longer term.

─ At this stage, we would not like to take the risk that in 10 years we will have too much space to maintain compared to the need. Based on this, the options AC would be eliminated from further preparation, project manager of the service network project Mari Routti says.

In alternatives D and E, the total volume of early childhood education services would grow too large compared to the number of children forecasts. Among other things, it is written into the Finnish government program that private early childhood education must be subject to a permit. At this stage, there is no information yet on what effects the implementation of the government program will have on private early childhood education. At both the residents' and the staff's meeting, private daycares sparked the most discussion.

The city's website is open until Friday inquiry, where citizens and staff can leave their opinions. When the survey opened, the G model was not yet in preparation. If someone wants to leave their opinion about the G model, they can be sent to customer serviceatimatra.fi (customer service[at]imatra[dot]fi)
